Huntington, WV – As part of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, Branches Domestic Violence Shelter will host a special training session at St. Joseph Central Catholic High School in Huntington, WV, on Wednesday, February 5, at 3:30 PM. This training is designed for young athletes, emphasizing the importance of recognizing healthy vs. unhealthy dating behaviors and fostering a culture of respect both on and off the field.
Teen dating violence affects one in three adolescents in the U.S., making education and prevention efforts crucial. Through this interactive session, Branches will engage student-athletes in meaningful discussions about boundaries, communication, and the impact of relationships on mental and emotional well-being.
“Athletes are often seen as leaders among their peers,” said Sara Blevins O’Toole, Director of Development. “By equipping them with the tools to build healthy relationships, we’re not only helping them individually but also empowering them to set positive examples for others.”
This event is part of Branches' ongoing commitment to prioritizing safety and preventing domestic and dating violence through education, advocacy, and outreach.
Branches invites other schools and sports teams to reach out if they are interested in bringing this important training to their athletes. Coaches or athletic directors can contact blevins@branchesdvs.org to schedule a session.
Local media are encouraged to attend and help spread awareness of this critical issue. St. Joseph Central Catholic High School, located at 600 13th St., Huntington, WV, 25701.
